If you've been thinking about joining the Golf Channel's popular Am Tour, here's another chance. Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort will be hosting the Golf Channel Am Tour - Low Country Major Championship on March 13-13.

The event will be played on two of the resort's three championship golf courses – on the widely acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course and the popular Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes.

"We are excited here at Palmetto Dunes to partner with the Golf Channel to be a part of this nationally-recognized golf tournament," said Bret Martin, vice president of resort operations at Palmetto Dunes. "Our courses have hosted many prestigious golf tournaments over the years and the Golf Channel Am Tour – Low Country Major Championship is certainly among the best."

The Golf Channel Am Tour is one of the fastest growing movements in popular golf. With more than 5,000 members, it's the largest amateur golf tour in North America. Adding Palmetto Dunes to the schedule is just another example of the terrific venues the Golf Channel Am Tour has on its schedule.

The 6,710-yard Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, which opened in 1967, has undergone a complete renovation and has been rated among the best courses in the Southeast. Its signature hole is the par-5 10th, which offers picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean. It's one of only two oceanfront holes on Hilton Island.

The Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, which opened in 1986, is built over rolling dunes, meaning you'll get all sorts of different lies with plenty of elevation change. Fairways are framed by palmettos and palm trees, and there is water on 10 holes.

The other course, which is not being used for the Golf Channel Am Tour, is Palmetto Dunes' George Fazio Course, regarded by many as one of the most challenging golf courses in Hilton Head.

How to register for the Golf Channel Am Tour

Over the past three years, the number of local tournaments increased from 550 to more than 800, and participation in the season-ending National Championships has more than doubled since 2006, highlighted by the more than 1,200 members who competed at the 2009 National Championships in La Quinta, Calif.

Cost to become a member of the Golf Channel Am Tour is $199, which is valid for a year from the date of registration. To register for the Low Country Major Championship, please visit www.thegolfchannel.com. Online registration continues until March 7 at 12 p.m. EST. The tournament entry fee is $295.

I've been to this course before and it's great. Some of the best amenities and golfing I ever played.
