The Magnolia/Dogwood Course at Callawassie Island Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses that comprise Tom Fazio's 27-hole layout.

Eight of Magnolia's nine holes are interior, with the eighth green abutting the salt marsh. The eighth plays as the most difficult hole on any of the nines. It is a par-5 with a dogleg off the tee. Beginning at the bend of the dogleg is a lateral water hazard that comes into play along most of the remaining length of the hole. The well bunkered green backs onto the salt marsh where an errant shot could leave you in that marsh.

The marsh comes into play as a direct hazard twice on the ninth hole and forms a lateral hazard along the remaining length of the hole. Fazio has used his trademark illusions coupled with a small well-bunkered green to make it a very difficult hole.

Dogwood starts out through the interior of the Island, with water hazards on three of the first five holes.

Callawassie Island Club is a gated community club midway between Beaufort and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The first green on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course can be measured in acres. It's large, fast and will send putts on a roller coaster ride. The second hole on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course keeps water all along its left side. Note the tabby work near the green.No. 5 on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course makes sure few shots will end up with an even lie.No. 6 on Callawassie Island Club's Magnolia golf course is a beastly little par 3.Distance is everything on the par-3 sixth hole on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course. Too short, it's wet, too long and it's sandy. The seventh hole on Callawassie Island Club's Magnolia golf course, a par 4, uses a right side bunker as incentive to stay in the fairway. The eighth hole on Callawassie Island Club's Magnolia nine is one of the prettiest on the course, with a green right on the marsh.
