The Dogwood/Palmetto Course at Callawassie Island Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses that comprise Tom Fazio's 27-hole masterpiece. Dogwood, the newest nine, opened in 1992.

Dogwood starts out through the interior of the Island, with water hazards on three of the first five holes. The most difficult hole is the fourth, which is a long par-4, bordered by a hazard along its last 200 yards. The sixth is short par-5 that takes you out to the salt marsh and a well-bunkered island green.

The salt marsh forms a lateral hazard on the last three holes of Dogwood and provides outstanding views of the marsh, Spring Island and the lower portion of Callawassie Island.

The Palmetto nine winds through the interior of the Island, but golfers still face water hazards on six of the nine holes.

Note the tabby work near the green.No. 5 on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course makes sure few shots will end up with an even lie.No. 6 on Callawassie Island Club's Magnolia golf course is a beastly little par 3.Distance is everything on the par-3 sixth hole on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course. Too short, it's wet, too long and it's sandy. The seventh hole on Callawassie Island Club's Magnolia golf course, a par 4, uses a right side bunker as incentive to stay in the fairway. The eighth hole on Callawassie Island Club's Magnolia nine is one of the prettiest on the course, with a green right on the marsh. The ninth hole on Callawassie Island Club's Palmetto golf course slopes left toward a second-half water hazard.
