Heron Point at Sea Pines Resort was redesigned completely by Pete Dye and reopened in 2007. The golf course, previously named Sea Marsh, originally was designed by George Cobb,

After the multi-million dollar reconstruction project, Heron Point is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Fairways have been reshaped into dramatic angles and shifting elevations, while surfaces are a mix of sand, mulch, limestone, and different grasses that offer a kaleidoscope of appealing color changes.

Heron Point is less than one mile from Dye's legendary Harbour Town Golf Links.

The renovation has resulted in a 7,035-yard layout that comes close to matching Harbour Town, Dye's legendary golf course less than a mile away, in terms of difficulty. Most holes have water, trees, tricky doglegs or long bunkers to contend with, not to mention obstacles Dye likes to stick in the fairways themselves.

Although a few holes are honest and challenging, many more are gimmicky. And hope Dye's redesign was just partial so his group is not responsible for all of the drainage grates right next to the elevated greens! If not, then this fact and others reduce this course's allure. For the money, many other courses on Hilton Head are much better.
