Sea Pines Resort - Ocean Course
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina | 18 holes | Par: 72 | 6906 yards
Designed by George Cobb in 1962, with a 1996 renovation by PGA Tour player Mark McCumber, the Ocean Course at Sea Pines Resort comes in as one of the oldest courses in the Hilton Head golf establishment.
"The course barely touches the ocean -- the 210-yard 15th hole and the 16th tee provide a peek of the Atlantic -- but lagoons and marsh pools are prevalent everywhere else," said TravelGolf.com writer Jason Scott.
Still, water comes in to play on 12 holes, making your work off the tee that much more important. It is a resort course, however, so players will get opportunities to score. Plus, McCumber plays with a slight fade and designed the course with that in mind, which bodes well for the average golfer who fights a slice.
Homes will be a companion for part of the course, as the Ocean Course helped usher in the area of golf communities in Hilton Head.
